Sixth Grade Reading/SS

My Family

Introduction

I have been teaching sixth grade at Wisconsin Heights since 1989. I graduated from Wisconsin Heights High School and went on to get my BS in Elementary Education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I earned my MA from Viterbo University in 2001.

My husband and I have lived in the district most of our lives and we have two wonderful daughters and three grandchildren who keep us greatly entertained.

I love learning and am continually working to improve the craft of teaching!

My Classroom

My classroom is filled with students who are focused on tackling relevant issues. They are continually challenged with the phrase, "So What?" Whether it be Reading, Language Arts, or Social Studies, connections are often made between the three subjects.

Students are able to work in pairs and small groups in order to deepen their understanding of the material. The discussions they have are always interesting!

Teaching Style

I would describe myself as a pretty laid-back kind of teacher. I enjoy my students and the conversations that I have with them. I like to challenge students' thinking and am not afraid to take risks. As a result, my students are not afraid to take risks. They quickly learn that I have a sense of humor and curiosity about the world. If a topic takes a detour, we follow it.
