First grade is filled with many new experiences. I believe learning is best done in a variety of ways. First graders need opportunities to explore through hands-on activities, visuals and modeling of skills being taught. First grade uses the Benchmark Advance ELA curriculum which implements phonemic awareness, phonics, a variety of stories and writing skills. The program is aligned to the Wisconsin State Standards. We use the Bridges in Math curriculum. This curriculum engages kids with problems and investigations, work places and Number Corner to develop math concepts. This curriculum is aligned to the Wisconsin State Standards. We integrate the subjects of science and social studies in our reading program. Kids learn many concepts such as day and night, animal characteristics, life cycles, sound, light and heat. We also explore concepts such as communities, past, present, future, and goods and services,
