#VanguardPride staff members gathered on Monday for the 2023-2024 Welcome Back Inservice Day!
Interim District Administrator, Craig Gerlach, started the morning by introducing himself and setting the stage for a positive year! School Board President, Barb Statz, joined us and shared a message of support and appreciation.
We celebrated new staff and changes to existing staff, milestones, received an update on instructional goals, and had a fantastic guest speaker, Tom Thibodeau, Professor of Servant Leadership, Viterbo University.
Such a motivating start to a great school year!
The Wisconsin Heights School District Open House will take place on Thursday, August 31st from 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm.

All students (PK – 12th grade) need to have their picture taken for their school ID, the yearbook, and their Skyward picture.
-Elementary students will get their pictures taken in the Elementary Gym.
-Middle School/High School students will get their pictures taken in the High School Cafeteria.
Picture retakes are scheduled for Tuesday, October 3rd.
GoRiteway Busing will be set up in the Elementary School Library to assist families with bus questions.
Middle/High School students will pick up their district devices in the STEP room.
MS/HS Schedules, Lockers, Lunch numbers, and HS Parking Permits will be picked up in the MS/HS Main Office.
The main office for the Elementary School and MS/HS will be open for any registration questions, to pay your student fees, and to add money to your student’s lunch account.
Medication drop-off for all grades will be in the Elementary Nurse's office located next to the Elementary Main Office.

Our first home events of the year kick off tonight with boys soccer hosting Platteville at 7 pm! In addition to a great soccer game we will have a 50/50 raffle (winner announced at halftime) and selling Bucky Books. Proceeds go towards Wisconsin Heights Athletic Scholarships. What are you doing later today? Want to get a sneak peek of our 2023 JV & Varsity Volleyball teams before their regular season begins next week? Stop by the Wisconsin Heights High School this afternoon starting at 4:00 pm to watch them scrimmage against Barneveld, Madison West, & Middleton.
Scrimmage will go until approximately 7:00 pm and admission is FREE!
There will be a full dinner menu for all players, coaches & spectators as a fundraiser for the HS Volleyball program.

Last Thursday, #VanguardPride junior Cody Blicharz and sophomore Tucker Acker represented Wisconsin Heights at the Capitol Conference Sportsmanship Meeting held at Cambridge High School. Here, representatives from each Capitol Conference school came together to craft the sportsmanship statement to be read at the start of every varsity sporting event. What an honor!

The Wisconsin Heights School District will be running annual online student registration starting Monday, August 7th - Thursday, August 31st.
Parents will log into their Skyward Family Access account to complete the enrollment process for each child. Each child must have yearly enrollment forms on file, including a Student Enrollment form, Health form, Unexpected School Closing (PK-8th grade) form, Digital Survey information form, and Computer Usage/District Data permission form.
Any families who need assistance with the online registration process may contact Ms. Shaffer at 608-767-2586 ext. 3009 or by email at tshaffer@wisheights.k12.wi.us when the online registration portal opens.
Lifetouch pictures – Student pictures will be taken during Open House which will be on Thursday, August 31st from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. More information will be sent out to families later in August.

During the last week of summer school, Career Week class explored different careers and had visitors from Dane County Humane Society, Jessie & Kay from Dogs On Call, and a scientist come to talk about their jobs.

The #VanguardPride summer school Wellness class took two field trips this month. The first was a hiking trip on the Ice Age Trail outside Cross Plains, and the other was to Lion's Den Taekwondo gym in Black Earth.
Looks like a great way to get moving!
Today in summer school, the kids created Mandala designs while on our nature walk along the trail. Have your kids try it next time you're out and about in nature!

A group of #VanguardPride teachers attended the PLC at Work Institute at the Monona Terrace recently. Teachers attended various breakout sessions centered around learning, collaboration, and results. Representatives from Stevenson High School, which is the birthplace of the PLC at Work culture, were the main speakers.
Our district has been sending staff members to PLC Institutes for the past seven years.

Jacob works at Sign Art through a partnership with MARC (Madison Area Rehabilitation Centers) - Mt. Horeb. Earlier this year, Sign Art was a recipient of one of the Employer Appreciation Awards. Jacob loves working there and is part of the Sign Art family.
Jacob's speech: "Hello, my name is Jacob Ott and I love working at Sign Art. I really enjoy all of my co-workers. I empty the trash, scan all old work orders and keep the place clean. Thank you Dan and Lindsey for being great people to work for and I hope I can keep working for you for a long, long time."

Join the Dane County Deputies at Lions Park in Mazomanie on July 13th for KICK IT WITH A COP!
This is a free event and open to all! There will be special guest appearances from the Drone Operators, Traffic Team, and the Lions Den Tae Kwon Do! But the fun doesn't stop there! You can throw stop sticks, race the Deputies in an agility run and more!
The event starts at 11:30am and goes until 1:00pm. The timing is perfect for those attending summer school.

Ms. Condon's Movie Party! summer school classes were a hit! Students got to enjoy movies, build blanket forts, make crafts and snacks, and play trivia games. Based on their ages the kids watched Lightyear, Turning Red, and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. We can't wait for classes to start again on July 10th!
