Look at these fun projects from Mrs. Stenner’s 4Kers! The first picture is about "Planet Earth" and how to love it and keep it healthy. Beautiful! The second picture shows their creations around "Spring is Sprung!" The class discussed topics such as plants and baby animals. Aren't those chicks just adorable?? #VanguardPride

Ms. Steffen's class had a guest, Mr. Crowson, who spoke to the students about cornea transplant surgery. Students recently finished a unit on waves and were learning about the structures of the eye. Students got to hear all about what goes into cornea transplant surgery and even got to see a kit that they would use! #VanguardPride

April is Autism Acceptance Month! According to autismspeaks.org: • In 2023, the CDC reported that approximately 1 in 36 children in the U.S. is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD), according to 2020 data. • Boys are four times more likely to be diagnosed with autism than girls. • Most children were still being diagnosed after age 4, though autism can be reliably diagnosed as early as age 2. • 31% of children with ASD have an intellectual disability (intelligence quotient [IQ] <70). • 25% are in the borderline range (IQ 71–85), and 44% have IQ scores in the average to above average range (i.e., IQ >85). • Autism affects all ethnic and socioeconomic groups. • Early intervention affords the best opportunity to support healthy development and deliver benefits across the lifespan. For more information about ASD, you can visit https://www.autismspeaks.org/ Like/share/comment if autism has touched your life! #VanguardPride💚

Wisconsin Heights Elementary School Reading/Math Interventionist Josie Geishirt and Reading Specialist Kelly Kroon just ended their term as co-presidents of the Wisconsin Title 1 Association (WT1A). As part of their duties as co-presidents, Josie and Kelly planned and chaired the Association's 2023 conference, Embrace the Change, Empower the Future. This conference was the first in-person conference for WT1A since 2019 and was a huge success. Pictured with Josie and Kelly is keynote speaker Suzy Pepper Rollins. Way to represent our #VanguardPride! 💚

Mrs. Johnson's 6th grade Science classes completed a Root Growth Lab. Students were split into groups and grew one of six types of seeds: carrot, lima bean, peas, pumpkin, radish, or spinach. The kids made predictions, observed changes in their seeds and recorded root length daily. Additionally, students compared and contrasted their seeds to other groups over a one week period. Pumpkin and pea seeds grew the fastest and had the longest roots, while carrot seeds took the longest to grow and had the shortest roots. Our Life Science classes continue to show #VanguardPride everyday through exploration!

The sixth graders were shipwrecked on an island and had many choices to make using evidence and deductive reasoning. All choices had to be justified before seeing the results of their choices. While not all groups were successful, a good time was had by all! #VanguardPride

Wisconsin Heights 7th grade math is learning about triangles and the relationships between their sides and angles. This week, they learned the Triangle Inequality Theorem, which is a rule that describes the relationship between the 3 sides of a triangle. Rather than just telling them the rule, the students had to use markers to build sets of lengths that would and would not form triangles and develop the rule themselves. Here's a great example of how #VanguardPride teachers engage their students in creative ways!

Calling those in the #VanguardPride community! Wisconsin Heights High School's National Honor Society is holding a baby clothing and supplies drive with all proceeds going to Babies and Beyond in Wisconsin. It will take place from April 17th through the 28th. Clothing can be gently used or new, and we ask that sizes are 5T or below. Pull ups can be size 6T and below, and formula would also be a great donation. Donation boxes will be located in the main entrance airlock and at the high school entrance! Let's help kids and families in Wisconsin! 💚

Our #VanguardPride 7th graders adventured to the Milwaukee Public Museum. This was an educational experience that brought to life their learning from 6th and 7th grade curriculum. It's great when our students are able to go out and see what they're learning in class!
