Our Vanguard Welding students participated in their first ever welding competition at Blackhawk Technical College in Milton!
Although we didn't win, it was a fun and exciting learning experience. In addition to welding and competing, they took a written exam and a job interview.
Thanks to BTC for hosting this regional competition. Next, it's off to District Competitions! Good Luck Vanguards!

Personal Finance did a Game of Life Project to finish their unit on creating budgets. Students randomly chose a career, house, vehicle, and habit card. A habit card might be a daily coffee drinker, video gamer, or a road tripper.
Using the information on the cards, they had to determine if they were living within their means in paying for food, housing, transportation, and entertainment. If they weren't, they had to determine how they could adjust their lifestyle.
Great learning lesson!

7th grade math celebrated Halloween by using their new skill to solve two-step equations to escape a haunted house. In each room of the digital haunted house, the class was confronted with an equation to solve and 3 doors with solutions on them to solve for. Students used their whiteboard tables to solve the equations, and then one student was randomly selected in each room to pick a door. If the student chose the door with the correct solution, the class made it to a new room, but if they chose a door with an incorrect solution, a spider jumped out at them, and they had to resolve the problem.
Awesome and fun ways to learn!

4th Graders spent Friday celebrating and sharing their writing with one another. They worked on developing strong opinion essays to convince parents or teachers or friends to make a change. Some students want cell phones and some want longer recess. We’ll see if their writing can persuade their targeted audience to get them what they want!

#VanguardPride 7th Grade Social Studies students in Mrs. Schmitt's classes created chalk and paint projects of the northern lights. Students are studying Canada and made the connection to this past summer when the northern lights were visible in our Mazomanie/Black Earth area. The class read a NASA article to learn about the northern lights and simulated the movement of nitrogen, oxygen, photons, and particles to demonstrate how this phenomenon forms.
What a fun way to learn!
